Commissioners, Mayor joined Hopeworks, expanding skilled trades workforce initiative in Camden

On Thursday, September 17 from 3 to 5 p.m., Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. joined Mayor Victor Carstarphen and local workforce leaders to celebrate the launch of Hopeworks’ expanded Skilled Trades Workforce Initiative. The event brought together employers, workforce leaders, local government, Hopeworks young adults, and major donors to discuss how the region can build the next generation of skilled workers.

“Hopeworks has been a crucial partner in the professional development of young people throughout the city of Camden, and has helped connect young people with meaningful career opportunities while addressing the growing need for skilled workers across our region,” said Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. “By bringing together employers, workforce leaders, government, and the community, we can create stronger pathways for our young people to land good-paying careers, and help ensure that our workforce is prepared for the jobs of tomorrow.”

Attendees heard directly from Hopeworks young adults who are pursuing careers in manufacturing, construction, water utility, and healthcare, as well as from regional employers about the growing need for skilled talent and the role of public-private partnerships in building the workforce pipeline.
